Default Valve Covers

On the KT and Magnums, there are two Valve Covers, one for each side. I have wondered about this for some time now. The covers are bigger (longer) than the casting opening in the top of the Jug. Why is that ? Why couldn't one cut the cover back to where it covers the opening and get rid of the excess ?? Seems to would make pulling the covers for valve checking & adjustment a whole lot easier.

See attachment.

Valves are not adjustable, they must be removed and the stems ground to proper clearances.
The covers come off easily.

I am fully aware of that. I have already done the process.

The "size" (or oversize) of these covers, makes no sense or logic to me.

Sorry, I was replying on the cell, which I find difficult to type on, so
I keep replies short.
It is more cost effective to make the covers larger to insure proper cooling airflow around the cylinders, than to make additional
covers to accomplish that same task.
They try to keep as much air around the heads with as little extra "parts" as possible, exiting it all out the front as you know.
Any air escaping is unwanted heat ingested into the air cleaner, as well as under hood heat.
Blaw Blaw Blaw.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
