LTX1046 (13WP91AT009) 2012 Model

The neighbor across the street from me, has this machine. Has a HydroGear Transmission (311-0510). They state it runs fine on level ground. When they attempt to climb a slope, it struggles. They further state, that this spring when they pulled the tractor out of winter storage, they noticed a small puddle of oil, underneath the rear axle. I am guessing this transmission is low on oil and has a bad seal/gasket. (A) Does anyone know the HydroGear model or series of this transmission?, (B) How does one check the oil level? (C) How does one add oil?

The oil fill is in the top kind of under the fan. If it has the rear battery it is possible to get to that way. It's a flat rubber coated plug that you pry out with a flat screw driver. The most obvious thing you'll see is the vent not the fill/ drain port. The vent is plastic and easily broken.
I usually just remove the trans. It needs cleaned off good with a pressure washer anyway. It's not hard to do, just a handful of bolts and a couple rods. I usually clean it off, pull the fan, pull the plug, flip it over and drain it. It comes with 10w30 motor oil in it. So top off with 10w30. Hydrogear says if you drain it to refill it with some fancy synthetic oil. I generally use whatever oil is cheapest at farm and fleet. I prefer 15w40 motor oil. It takes less than 3 quarts. The axle seals are really the only ones that go bad, i think any other leaks are just caused by the vent being plugged because after cleaning they don't leak any more. Maybe cooling better? If i perform this service for a customer i charge 2 hours.
