IH Cub Cadet 129 Replacement Motor
Howdy! I have an old International Harvester 129; have had it maybe 4 years, now. The motor recently blew on me- looks like the rod broke and went right through the side. I don't think it's the original motor- it's a Tecumseh 10hp- and I'd like to replace it. I've had no success finding another Tecumseh, except for a few online that have tapered shafts (mine is not tapered), but I have been looking at the Predator 13hp motors ($399, and that's already beyond my budget) that Harbor Freight carries. Has anyone ever used this motor in a 129? I mainly worry about the baseplate dimensions, but maybe there are some other factors I need to consider that I have not thought of yet. I'll still have to get crank length and dimensions from the old motor, too, but I'm on the road for another few weeks. Any help in information would be very helpful! Thank you!

I'd think somebody would be by to tell you better but
It should have a 12hp Kohler K301A, 1 cyl engine. I would not bother with a Chinese engine (predator) If I couldn't find another 12hp Kohler, I'd look for a newer Kohler Command 1cyl, from like a 2130 to 2166. I've never done this swap but it shouldn't be that hard.

Thank you for all the replies. I accidently stuck this in the Kohler engine section, and don't know how to change it, so, oh well. Does anyone know where I could find one of the proper Kohler motors? Time will be short to get a motor in our tractor. It has a lot of tilling to do as soon as the earth thaws!

Advertise in the classified section here and there is also some good bookface cub cadet groups you can post in. There should be plenty available.

Yanmar Diesel could be a nice upgrade.

Probably not on that tractor without side panels/air ducting.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
