Mine are an inch or so from center with eachother IIRR more or less. No not neccessarily. As long as the belt is tight and the pulleys are clear I'd not worry about it.

If you go to the tech library you will find the topic with pic [posted by our own R Bedel.
To improve belt life, a proper alignment from the PTO drive pulley to the center pulley of the deck is imperative. Also, is it important to use the correct belt.

Ah yes centered under the engine pulley but the tension pulley will not stay aligned to eachother, as least mine don't, allows for movement.

not sure if its streched but looking at the front of the tractor, the pulley on the right has an adjustment bolt and the one on the left looks to be a lever and that one is set back further than the one on the right

OK we need to call an expert in or a reasonable facsimile .
Help !! I know of the lever your talking about , It should have two notches one to remove belt the other is a gauge to replace belt., in between those notches the tension should be adjusted so pulleys are inline with the PTO belt should run as streight as possible as not to prematuurely whare out

ok so i was under the tractor last nite at midnight and noticed that the pulleys were severly offset! The pulley with the treaded bolt is fubared. looking at the belt, it looks like its the wrong size. it is rubbing on the spring that is attached to the pulley bar. what size belt do i need and can i get the bolt that holds the pulley in place from a local hardware store or does anyone have one laying around that they wouldnt care to part with?? the bolt looks like it has just a hook on the end that goest to the pulley bar thanks for all your help.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
