New owner
I bought a 102 yesterday in pretty decent shape. This is actually my first one that I've owned myself. Ive been borrowing more modern tractors from the in-laws that all tend to break down in one way or another during my mowing (we're talking right at an acre so no big tracts of land). Anyway I bought it and its pretty well set (the guy "restored" it..ie painted it and rebuilt a few of the components) runs good save for one problem, the muffler is practically non existent anymore. Are there any recommended vendors for this part? As I've been looking it seems that prices vary greatly (cheapest is $35...up to $140) So just curious about that. I've never been one to work on mowers, etc.. but this is changing now (I have worked on my spitfire whose engine isn't much more than a mower engine!)
Anyway, any info you could shoot me about the model would be great. I do know it has front PTO (nothing to put on it yet, so a little confused on how that works) with the original 10hp engine and 3 speed transmission. Thanks! |

PSevins: An IH-393840-R91 Muffler for a Cub Cadet Model 102 costs about $70.00 at your local Cub Cadet Dealer. Any price that varies much from that recent MTD price is either used (do you really want a used muffler??) or a rip-off.

thanks, I was just trying to determine why there was such a variance in prices for (all new) mufflers.
Muffler has been ordered and now I'm off to remove the wheel weights |

It's always great to have a fellow Hoosier Cubber on board!!!! Have fun as a new owner of a quality machine!!! Anyone who has used inferior tools at some time or other, only to get discouraged by their performance only to change to a quality tool, has learned to value the quality behind an IH cub cadet.
Enjoy... Cub Cadet 123 |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
