Glad to have you here. Thanks for the pics and I'm sure someone will respond with the power steering info you need. A sleeve hitch will not work on this tractor due to the fact the gas tank is in the way. You'll need a cat O hitch and plow for it.

Red Paint, welcome to OCC. You have one of the most sought after cubs ever built. The first thing I will tell you is that they are also more expensive to repair. I don't see the radiator in your pictures. Do you have it? Here is what I would also check.

Check the 6 rear bolts that hold the rear end into the frame. Check them to see if they are tight but don't over tighten them. If any of them are stripped out you may need to change it. We will cover that later if they are.

Check the drive shaft to see if there is any play in it. Diesels are hard on the driveline. Check the rear coupler to see if it is loose and also the rubber disc's to see if they are in poor condition.(we call them rag joints)

The Kubota D640 engines are good engines if it wasn't abused. It would be nice to see if it would run. You will also need to change the fuel lines, flush the tank and replace the filters.

I have owned two diesels in my life-time, a 1512, and currently a 1782 SGT (model after yours). I love them!






As Oak mentioned, check your 6 tranny bolts, and do not, and I mean DO NOT over tighten them. My 1512 had loose bolts, and not to good of threads because of that...When I went to tighten them, I stripped the threads in the casting. If the casting threads become/is stripped, you should be ok with a heli-coil...If not, another rear would be the answer, as Oak also said.


On the PS tower, there should be a little bent piece of flat bar-stock on the top of the valve. This has two holes in it, and holds the valve to the dash tower.







If you have any questions, I would be more than happy to help. Otherwise, it looks like Oak (Todd) has everything covered!

There should be a flat bar on each side with 2 nuts welded to it. The bolts come up from the bottom and the flat bar goes on top of the casting to hold in place. This is the only pictiure I could dig up and the arrow is pointing at the bar.
Any Kubota parts you need will be cheaper from Kubota. Also try the sponsors at the top of the page.

there is an extension spring on each side of the grill too hold it in place and yet still allows you to pull it back from the top to clean grass ect from the radiator screen. the cub cadet web site gives you a breakdown and picture that will be of some help to identify parts. Go to parts and then type in model number. I have had my 1772 for almost 20 years. good luck on the repairs
