New Member Here
Hi everyone i am new here but have been checking things out here and decided to join.
I have always had some sort of garden tractor but up until the other day when my son got a nice 149 did i even give CCs a thought.After seeing his and spending some time around it that was all it took.I had to have one. Yesterday i spotted a real nice 109 sitting in a guys yard and had been there some time.I stopped and chatted with the owner who agreed to sell it for 300 bucks.Tractor is very nice and all origional.He said the only reason he parked it was the SG wasnt charging.I snatched it up and will post pics in a day or two.Since Cubs are new to me i may run you crazy with questions until i learn more about it. I will only ask one today. How do you check and fill the hydro?

Welcome and glad to have you here,you wont drive anyone crazy with tons of questions!!
On the rear end cover plate,back of tractor, there is a plug,take it out the hytran should be to the bottom of the hole.if not fill till it starts to come out and your good to go!!Hydraulic fluid! also change the filter.if the tractor runs good and you dont need to do much Id change the fluid,but I personaly wouldnt do it till I new the tractor ran good! My SG wasnt generating and was real weak.I took it apart sanded the commutator and replaced the brushes and it works great now!! Again welcome Jason

I guess I'll throw in a couple words too. my gramps has a 149 that has been neglected since new. still runs great, everthing works. can't help you with the S/G problem, but I do reccomend changing the rear oil and filter if you plan to do a little work. just my .02!

 Make sure to use genuine Hytran when topping off the fluid. You'll know there is Hytran in there by the sweet smell it emits when you pull the plug. You might ask the PO when the last time the rear was serviced. You don't have to change it that often. I changed the fluid in the 127 I picked up but after inspecting it I wish I hadn't. No globs of white gunk were present but the filter was really old. You might get away with changing the filter and topping it off. If you have a CaseIH dealer you can get the rear end cover gasket cheaper than from Cub Cadet too. Like half price if I remember right. Just get a gasket for a Farmall Cub, same thing as your 109. Oh, and the non-charging may be the V/R too. If you have a good electrical shop in your area you can take both the S/G and V/R in and they can test them for you. If you call around first, ask the shop if they have a 'Growler" they will either know what you need or say "huh?" move on if it's the later. Congrats to you and your son for purchasing some of the finest lawn and garden equipment ever built... in the good ole USA!
