Default 782 engine transplant?

Can any of you tell me if a 15 hp engine out of a 1541 will work on a 782? My 782 broke a rod. It had a Kt17S engine type II. The engine from this 1541 looks to be about the same. I have only seen pictures. The replacement engine even has the external oil filter, which I would consider a plus. If any of you have any knowledge regarding this possible transplant, I would truly appreciate your input. Thank you.

You indeed can. It's basically a M18. It is a bolt in engine. All you have to do is do a minor wiring change. I would post how to do it but i'm not at home right now.

Thank you very much AJ for the post. Was the news I was hoping to hear. Now I need to see if I can get it bought and hopefully hear it run. Will let you know if I get this together and if I need help in the wiring mod.

Thanks Again,

Roger

Just make sure you use the spacers under your old engine with the new engine for proper alignment.

Got the engine bought, now I hope one of you, A.J. or anyone else can tell me what the wire modification is about. I probably won't do any work on it till this weekend, so not in a great rush.

Thanks
Roger

Roger

You want to talk to the Master of Cub Short Circuits the one and only Dr.Roland Bedell. He will want to know the serial # of your tractor and then the magic will begin.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
