1650, 108, and 123 mash up
Hey guys. I know im not on here alot but I was wanting to know what you thought on this as I take three cubs and turn it into one. It all started when my 108 threw the rod and ate the crank. Which up until that point was my main go to tractor. My 1650 has been a work in progess off and on for about two years now and have yet to afford the expensive electrical parts it needs (im on a very limited budget for my projects). So I dug out my 123 from the moth balls and began taking the good parts from the now dead 108 and brought the engine back to life. However since it is my only narrow frame, and didnt realize the steering had locked up solid from bad grease zerks, that the lack of funds has now left me with two tractors with good rear ends and not so good engines. And my only running one has no ability to steer. So I stood there stiring at my tractors and thought. I have used all the good parts from the 108 to bring back my 123. And now im thinking of transplanting the engine and wire harness into the 1650 as a temporary repower. So my ultimate question is this; will my 12hp from the 123 fit the engine cradle of the 1650? I believe I know the answer but wanted to know from anyone who has done this kind of swap before. Now I could have easily transplanted it into the 108 but since I also use this to mow the lot at work, the gear drive was a bit too fast (no creeper gear) for the grass that is above the hood line ( I'm asked to mow it once a month). In addition to this I will have to swap over the drive shaft couplings and mock up the 123 pto lever. Not a big deal and the holes from that can be easily filled. Mostly im just wanting some insight before I attempt something that may or may not work in the first place. Ill also try to add some pics of the build as I go.

Putting the 12 hp from the 123 into a Quiet Line introduces a whole new nest of problems first of which is there is no way to make a front PTO from a Wide or Narrow Frame work in a QL and the engine block from the 123 is not drilled for an electric PTO. Even if it was drilled, if you put an electric pto on a Narrow Frame 12 HP engine then there would be no way to start the engine because you would loose your crank pulley for the S/G and the 12 hp engine doesn't have a ring gear on the flywheel for a starter, not to mention that then you would have no charging system.
First off I would tell them at work to find someone else to cut their grass once a month because letting it grow that big if too hard on your equipment. Not sure what parts of your 123 steering is locked up but the front axle and steering column from your 1650 or your 108 will fit in your 123 and work just fine. Sorry, I know that's not what you wanted to hear.

Not at all Yosemite Sam. This is what I needed to know begore I go too deep lol. Normally the grass at work doesnt get that tall but we have had rain nearly every week here in middle Tennessee. I really need a bigger tractor and bush hog for most of my mowing of these "hay fields" when I dont have my sickle bar mower handy aka not mounted on my working 1650. Thanks again for the good info!

I'm sure you can fix the steering on the 123 for free simply by disassembling the froze part and cleaning it up and adding fresh grease. It would also be a whole lot less work to just fix the 123 vs trying to butcher 3 tractors to make one.

I personally mixed my "O" and a 129. If your not afraid of getting yelled at. You can make a lot of things work. I also put my 129 front axle on my o. A lil grinding. Lil welding. Lil mods along the way, she is workin great. I will soon be tryin to put on the 129 engine. Have a hole cut out for the oil pan. I guess it comes down to what you are willing to do.. Have fun with it.
