Default New to me Red 982

I purchased a red 982 (my 1st super!!) yesterday. It has a Magnum 18hp as a transplant, instead of the 19.9 Onan. I have the same engine on my 782 and really like the performance and sound of it. The PO told me that since the engine did not match up with the wiring harness, a kill switch was installed. I have already noticed that it can be frustrating trying to get it started when the kill switch is engaged . I do not know what is standard issue on these and what is not. The seat is in excellent shape and the rears are already loaded, but with calcium-YUCK! Red paint is stock, but the off white is not. Has an 50" IH deck and IH decal on back fenders. Power steering cylinder is from a yeller one. So far today, I de-greased some of it, put some IH wheel weights on it and put a hood ornament as a crown on it! It steers just like my cubs with skinny fronts, so I heard a lot about power steering but only notice a difference when I turn the key off and try to move the tractor. Hard to get used to depressing the clutch/brake pedal as it catches on my right foot since I am not used to the dual brake pedals over there....hahahaha. Well, what do you think?

Welcome to the super club!
I think you need shorter bolts on your wheel weights, otherwise, looks to be in great shape.

Thanks!! Why is that Uncle Lewy? I bought both of them and used the longer ones in case I wanted to stack them. Any particular reason to go with the shorter ones other than the obvious trip hazard of the longer ones?

There is a fix for that.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
