What can you tell me about an HDS3186?
I sold my 1811 with all of its implements and now I need a good reliable mower with power steering and hydraulic deck lift. This is in the local CL and was wondering what they are like long range. I think maybe Oak has one but am not sure.

Rudy, if it's the one in Commerce he is way too high. He tried selling it a while back and I guess he never did.
They are great grass cutters but if I remember you cut a few different heights of grass and the early 3k's ride the ground on the casters and rear roller. I'm not sure how well they cut suspended from the tractor but the ones built November 1, 2000 and on have a deck height control knob on the floorboard. That one has a 289 48" deck that does give a nice cut. I like the 3k's for mowing because once you get the feel for the foot controlled hydro its hard to go back. I loved that old 1811 and we have been through 8 years together. But I started flipping John Deere's about three or four years ago and realized that I really didn't need all the implements that I have to go on the 1811. A young guy showed up yesterday to look at two JD's I have for sell and we got to talking about how he was going to use whichever one he bought. He has acreage and need a tractor that will plow, till and carry stuff. Plus I had a johnny bucket for the 1811. He wanted to look at it to see what it looked like and then fell in love with it and really liked the power steering. So I sold it to him because I don't use any of the things that go with it. He will put them all to good use and that to me is the name of the game. Keep these old tractors running forever. I asked about the 3K series just to be loyal to the old brand. But I will probably stay with the JD's that I have learned a lot about. I have a 345 with power steering and a liquid cooled Kawasaki in it. 48-inch deck with hydraulic deck lift. And like Oak said, once you get used to the foot pedals it's really hard to go back. The new guy could not believe the thickness of the fenders and the TOTAL lack of plastic! He was really impressed. I told him about this forum and he said he would join. Help him out like you all did for me.

Why didn't you just sell the implements and keep the tractor........ ?
My 1811 was sort of a Frankenstein in that much of the things that went with it were modified to fit my 1811 and I don't believe that there that many 1811's in this area. Shipping has gotten so expensive that I don't sell much on Ebay any more. The PS was from a JD 318. The Johnny bucket was a Craftsman made for that brand but altered many times to fit the 1811 including adding a 12 v bucket tilt ram. It had a fork lift for the sleeve hitch made by Aaron and had a 14-inch mold board plow and scrape blade. It also had an oil pressure gauge and an amp meter. I sort of looked at it like a complete system for someone who needed all of those things. I hope the young man uses all of the tools.

Doesn't sound to me like any of the implements wouldn't have fit on any '82 styled tractor. About 15 models I can think of that are the same frame as an 1811. But, hey, if it made you happy to sell it, no skin off my nose.
As an 1811 owner, I just don't understand why anyone would sell one to replace it with anything else. If it had power steering, it was the ultimate perfect GT. Good luck on your search!
