Default How many gallons to fill a 26x12x12 tire & wheel?
I suspect someone here knows the answer. I'm thinking about filling the rear tires on my 1872 plow tractor and need to know how many gallons of RV antifreeze to buy. Oh! BTW, how do I fill the tubes in my tires?

It takes about 7 gal to fill the 23x10.50x12 tires, so you are assuredly looking at about 8 gallons per tire. The 9lbs per gallon weight multiplied by 8 is 72 extra lbs per tire filled.

Two great responses, thank you. Now how do I get the liquid into the tire tube?

I vagley remember my dad made a little gaget with a small ss tube coming out the side of the connector to the valve stem. The brine was hauled up to a tank in the loft above the tire to be filled and allowed to gravity feed/fill the tire. The little stainless tube was for the air to purge out as filling progressed. IIRC there was a clear rubber hose attached to the ss tube. I think I might have been 6 or 7 at the time and 80 now so I may have mis-remembered it.

There are lots of YT videos showing various methods to fill the tires. Most involve a small pump and a fitting to burp air as you fill.

You are right, I just spent a block of time watching Utube videos on the subject. I think I will be able to fill my tires once my health allows. Thanks guys for your help.

Don't fill them full. 90 percent is best
With the stem at 12 o clock, no fluid should escape when you check air pressure

I don't like admitting it but I tried checking loaded tire pressure on my 8N Ford while on the ground and valve stem at maybe 7 o'clock. I pumped some air thru my Schradder tire pressure gauge and thought all was well until I tried using it again - everything coroded. $100. bucks cost for that lesson.
