Getting a lathe
I'm going to pick up a lathe this week from a guy I used to work with. It's an old Hardinge with a quick change collet head as well as 3 and 4 jaw chucks. The motor is bad on it but for the price I can't pass it up. It's the same as this lathe but it also comes with the cross slide, compound, and tool post. I'll be sure to post pics when I get it home.

Congratulations on the Lathe,
I have been keeping my eye out for one i can afford. I can always use the ones at work but it sure would be handy to have one right here in the garage Looking forward to the pictures. |

And less time staying after work to use their lathes. Looks like I'll have to wait until Wednesday to go get it since they're calling for rain the next 2 days.

I'm going to pick up the lathe tomorrow. I can't wait to get it running and try it out.

Got my lathe home today. The motor's no good so I need to figure out if I'm going to try to get this one fixed or just buy a single phase motor to replace it. I'd like to fix this one since it's a 2-speed motor but that means I'd also have to get a phase converter to be able to run it since it's 3 phase. Here's the pics.

I have run 3 phase motors on single phase two ways;
1) using a second slightly larger 3 phase motor for a phase generator. (cheap!!) 2) using a variable frequency drive. (more money) Getting a single phase motor is simple, but eliminates the variable speed that you could upgrade to in the future! Variable speed is SWEET on a lathe!! |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
