Default Original Seat Backrest

I have a 1961 "O" tractor that I found a spare seat backrest with a cushion. It is in good condition and I have been offered $100 for it. What is a fair price for the backrest? I have not seen one before. Are they rare? I was told they only came with the "O".

Thank you

Rick

Rick that sounds like a good offer to me, I would accept it, I believe they came on any cub with a pan seat but I could be wrong.

The "back rest" was on option for tractors with a metal pan seat.

As long as it is the correct one. $100.00 is fair. Have you got a pic of it?

Thank you to all for the information. The guy has not called me back yet,so I"m thinking about just keeping it to use on the narrow frame the grand kids drive around. If it came on the pan seat tractor,is this a somewhat rare option.I have not seen but 2 tractors with them.I can take a pic,but I have never had any luck with uploading to this site.I know its not hard,I just haven't taken the time to learn. If someone wants to PM me with a phone number i would be happy to text a pic to be uploaded. Thanks, Rick

I'm beginning to think that nothing is really rare anymore with the internet providing the availability and people with all sorts of things in old barns. I bought one of those backrest last year for $5, and that was the 2nd or 3rd one that day that I saw at a Swap Meet and just today, I met a man with a 4 digit O and sitting on the side was a NOS recoil pull start for it.

Well CRAP! I thought those back rests were rare enough that I put the one I have up in the attic. Was hoping to retire on it someday...

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
