Default Oil Filters

I picked up a $12 Kolher oil filter. While on my way home I stopped at autozone. The STP 3512 Oil filter is the exact filter (except it is blue). It has the same AA stamped on the filter, the drain holes are the same, a small white mark on the seal is the same. If you look inside everything looks the same. STP Filter $4.19 at autozone. I think Champion makes the filters.

I don't want to get into a 5 page discussion on oil filters but skip the STP oil filter. Your engine will thank you.

Wix makes the best filters on the planet. NAPA Gold are Wix and they really are not all that much more expensive than the STP you reference. Definitely cheaper than the Kohler. I use NAPA Gold on everything I own that takes a filter.

oem is not what it use to be. It's not hard to meet oem specs and the low bid usually gets the deal. There is nothing special about Cub Cadet filters.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
