installing a rear pto?
Hi all
On the hunt for a rear pto for my cub original. Seen some at a few junkyards. My question is will any pto work for my original? Wide frame, narrow farm, ih farmall cubs? To my knowledge they are all universal correct? Also I just need the shaft and the diff plate along with the actual pto shaft with the release bearing itself and the engaging lever? |

The original, Narrow and wide frame gear models could take a 515RPM rear PTO that spun the Opposite direction, as PTO's today. They were not really good for anything, and IH Never Made attachments to be run off the rear PTO On the IH Cub Cadet Garden tractors. The Marketing at the time was that it could run a grain elevator. It would be cool to Have it, But it's Kind of useless
Attachment to have.

IH Newer Put Out the claimed HP spec for the rear PTO Just 515 RPM PTO speed
BTW the Original 10 tests Models Never Had a Rear PTO On them . The test Model shown In the front of the Unofficial Cub Cadet Book(By Oscar H well) spent it whole Life in Elk Grove, Village, Illinois The first time I saw it, it was In Parts as the Owner of It was the IH Cub Cadet test engineer David Stevenson (My neighbor where I grew Up). He had left it as His In-laws acreage and the renters kids had taken it apart . He got it Back together and Gave it to Harold Schramm who was the head of the department that 1st Built Cub Cadet. Harold had it restored Both David and Harold have since Passed-on

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
