I just bought an 1862
I picked up this 1862 on Sunday evening. I believe it's a '91. It's in pretty decent shape and came with a triple bagger, though I'm missing a few parts for it so I have those on the way. Looking forward to mowing with this, so far I really like the hydro and power steering. You can see the tractor on this video on my YouTube channel:

Looks good in the video. Hydrostatic whine sounds normal. Plastics and fenders look in very nice condition. Many knowledgeable helpful people here for questions.

Looks great, nice find. I absolutely love my 1862 for mowing. The power
steering is excellent and the turn radius awesome. Being able to mow in reverse is one of my favorite features. Enjoy the new tractor. Ken |

Yeah, I was going to say, this one doesn't mow in reverse, the clutch disengages right away, can't say I like that too much. My other tractor does mow in reverse, so I've gotten used to that. I might have to look into changing that.
It's already running a lot better than before after I regapped the plugs and put some Seafoam in the tank. The plug gaps were way more than they should've been and it would occasionally backfire while cranking to start. Hasn't done it since. This weekend I'll put in new ones along with new air and fuel filters. Took the weights off today, I need to look at the brakes. They weren't working at all, I adjusted them, and one side is working ok, the other side feels like it has the incorrect spring on it, so I need to pull the wheels and see what it has. I have to have brakes here, lots of times I need to park on a hill while doing yard work, so no brakes isn't going to cut it. |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
