PTO Clutch Will Not Engage
My Quietline 1200 suddenly decided the front PTO for mowing blades won't
turn on. Flip the dash switch and nothing. I checked under the dash and the two plugs were attached. I checked the two fuses on the dash support and one was warm! I sprayed contact cleaner on the switch under the dash and at the dash. I checked the connector at the side of the PTO and its connected. Nothing. Any ideas? Thanks! |

Unplug the PTO at the PTO. Jumper 12v to the wiring of the PTO to see if it pulls in. If not, check continuity of the PTO coil. If open, time to change the PTO.

Try jiggling the pto switch when sitting in the seat with the engine running. It may work.

Use an ohm meter. Should have between 3 and 5 ohms from connector to ground.

If electrical checks out, maybe check and see if it needs to be tightened up. Cant recall what size feeler gauge to use, .15 maybe, could be its worn and needs adjusted.

I did the jumper wire direct to the pto and "click" so it was good.
I disconnected the wire plugs from the switch on the dash, removed switch and cleaned it with spray electrical contact cleaner. Re installed switch, connected wire plugs and BINGO! its works. Thank you all for all your suggestions. You guys always keep my cubs working for me(all 3 of them!) |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
