2284 But honey it was to nice to pass up.
I've been watching for donor motor for my 1872 and found this. This was way to nice for a donor, so I have other plans. I'm not going to sell it, but what do you think it is worth? It is 858hrs and all solid plastic. No issues that I can find thus far.

That thing is BORING. Anything that looks that nice probably only needs an oil change and blades sharpened. I bet your dash lights even work!
So did it come with the Sam Mac approved hold hold down device?

He did change the oil. He claims he changed oil every 50 hours and clean as it was I believe him. Blades do need sharpening. All lights do work. I should have taken the Sam Mac hold down off for the photo. I installed the hold down for the long trip home. I've seen to many hoods along the highways. Even though I never went over 40mph. Mapguest 3.7 miles, 9 minutes. This trip makes up for the St.Louis to K.C. run.

It appears I have electrical issues. It started and loaded on the trailer just fine. Got home started and unloaded off the trailer ok. Then it stuttered in the yard and quit at the garage door. Thought maybe out of fuel, added a couple of gallons. It starts and dies when you let go of the key. Saw electrical tape on the connector on ignition switch. Pulled that off and the black wire terminal was toast. Pulled that apart and replaced terminal and block. Still same thing start and quit. I'm leaning towards a bad ignition switch. Do the headlights stay on all the time? The switch seems to have a start, run with lights and off positions only, is this correct? My 1811 has start, run, run with lights and off positions. I do see the parts book calls out 2 different switches for the 1811 and 2284. When I turn the key on only I do hear and feel the fuel solenoid click. But if I touch the key just a little the solenoid clicks in and out and lights stay on. Any thoughts guys?

Take a look here about some of the issues I found with mine. There are some links to various pages here on OCC that have some info you should read. I don't remember if I fixed my switch or replaced the whole thing--think I changed the whole thing. Seems I have REALLY bad luck buying Cadets with bad key switches.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
