Old style rear sheet metal on a cyclops?
Hey guys, as you may have noticed from my previous forum posts, I have a 2182 that I'm fixing up. I'm replacing the crappy cyclops front end with a slightly modified hood and grill from an 1811. I'd love to also replace the rear sheet metal (or whatever it's called) with the old style stuff as well. I didn't think this was possible because of the fuel tank that's mounted back there, until I saw a picture of a 1772 that also has a rear mounted fuel tank. So here's my question. If I could find a fuel tank from a 1772 or similar older diesel, is there any reason I couldn't use my 1811 rear sheet metal as well? I realize that I'd have to cut a hole in the center of it, but is there anything else that would prohibit me from doing this?

Yes, there is a prohibitIing factor.... you'll never find a fuel tank for sale for a diesel. They are NLA and highly sought after by diesel owners. When they do rarely sell, get your checkbook out.

Ok, point taken. Has anyone ever tried using a generic tank in that spot?

So, what if by some miracle I could find a fuel tank? Would anything else stand in my way?

Just a thought, but I had a custom tank built for a puller I had by a local fabricator. I'm sure that you could find someone that build custom bikes and have them fab a tank for around $100. not sure what a nla tank would run?

I haven't sized that up but, I know I didn't like the fill point on the 1512. I think that tank would be on the small size for a gas engine. The Cyclops tank is much easier to fill than the other two tank locations. PeterJ

You've obviously not ever compared the two machines. If it was that easy, people would be doing it on all the diesels. Who doesn't want a bigger fuel tank? It doesn't fit.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
