Loss of forward drive.
Hi,
I have a Front cut FMZ50 zero turn CubCadet, model 17C14BFP603, I believe it is manufactured by MTD of Germany, and is equipped with a hydrostatic transmission system. The machine has behaved impeccably\well almost for 8 years, but I am now experiencing loss of forward drive, it is very sluggish, but in reverse as responsive as ever. I replaced the drive belt but this has not rectified the problem. I also checked the oil in the transmission tank, and that is up to the required level. Any advise would be most welcome, thank you. |

I am not familiar with this machine. However, If it is hydro static it should have similar relief valves as other types of cubs. Locate the relief vales and see if one of them is wet with hydro fluid. If not it could be a bad relief valve.

Since the problem is only in the forward direction I would look for something control wise that would be common to both transmissions, starting at the forward motion foot pedal. Likely a broken or out of adjustment linkage connection. |

ironman...Fingers Xd it might be that, I'll certainly make that my starting point, thank you both for your replies, I'll let you know the outcome.
Thinking about it, I've had the impression at times that the right hand drive wheel is not giving the drive that the left hand drive wheel is. |

Gentlemen, just to bring you up to speed, it did turn out to be a partially stuck linkage, so thank you both, ironman, and cooperino, your input was very much appreciated.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
