Default My new to me 680 (1210)

Just picked up this 680. I've never seen (and can hardly find a thing about) a 680. Lew linked me up that this is pretty much a 1210 so that's what I'm keying off of for manuals and info. The tractor is in crazy good condition when it comes to the lack of rust and stuff like that. I could not get it started but the engine did turn over. I didn't have a can of starter spray with me so not sure exactly what is up with that but I'm not to worried since my uncle said he has seen this run and it ran quite well. My only concern is that it has been leaking trans fluid. At this point all I can say is that my uncle said he saw the leak and that it is coming out of some fitting off the pump. I realize that is very little to go off of at this point so I'll have to take the fender off and get some pics. In the meantime, here are some pics of my new toy. I comes with the deck and has the panel on the right side so I have to only guess that the left is someplace with the deck.

Looks like its in nice shape other than some mechanical repairs, should clean up good and look real nice with some wax on it. Congrats

Yeah, I'm very surprised by how great a shape it is in. Getting the engine to start I'm pretty comfortable with. The leak, I'm not sure exactly what I'm in for so expect a few questions

Thanks man Please hang in there with me during my learning period with hydro. I'll do the best I can to stick to the manuals and searching the site but I'm super excited to get this going and will need to lean on you folks to support me. Talk about a kick but Christmas gift!

Your hydro leak is most likely the relief valves. They wear out internally and spit oil out the weep hole in the top. Very common. When your ready, we can show you where to get them rebuilt/exchanged.

I've been getting prep'd for this and found this video on the topic and agree with you. The guy in the video says that rebuilding them can be a little challenging so I might move towards rebuilds.

Gene, I probably have all the tools to rebuild them and I wouldn't even do it. Machtech direct's price worth just paying them.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
