My ninth-1980 582
I located exactly what I was looking for only 2 and a half hours away. This is an IH built 1980 582, sold to me without the twin 16HP Briggs. The metal is clean, dash has one small crack, grille is broken, but otherwise all there and good. I dismantled it to transport it. It came with a solid 44C deck and mule drive.

I fully cleaned the transaxle with Gunk and a garden hose while it was removed. After it dried, it was treated to a coat of Irongard IH red. It's looking like a tractor again.

I have made some progress on this build. The Command had leaky head gaskets, so the heads came off, and new Kohler gaskets were installed. The hub for the clutch that I ended up selecting is referred to as a "front drive adapter" KH-24-029-09-S. It is almost 4" long, but ended up being just right.

The .500" thick 1" diameter steel spacers were sourced from Ebay, and much cheaper than the OEM Cub Cadet spacers. It all fell into place. No issues with lining up anything.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
