New Owner of an older machine
Hello all,
I recently inherited a cub 1811 riding mower. I accepted it primarily to cut grass. However, the former owner gave me a snow blower attachment with it, and I purchased some run of the mill stuff for it such as a dump cart and a yard rake. I am by upbringing a John Deere man, however, as far as lawnmowers go I am really impressed with how well this tractor has held up through the years. Hardly any rust, still run smoothly, and my favorite feature is the hand throttle instead of foot controlled. I have had my run-ins with this machine, but all-in-all it is a wonderful freebie that I picked up! I am sure I will have plenty of questions as I am just learning the ropes of lawn mower maintenance of any kind. Thanks! Tom F. Owner of "Gus" the 1811 |

Hello and welcome! An 1811 is a good cub from all I've heard. I have a 1211 and 1200. You got a good deal on yours, can't beat free!! Glad to hear you've turned from the dark side!

Just my 2 cents but the 1811 is just getting broken in. Cub years go something like 20 years = 1 year compared to the crap offered today. Glad to have you aboard. I'm sure the group can help you with any questions you may have about your 1811.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
