Cub Cadet 100 38"-3 spindle mower deck
I am trying to fabricate the baffles on bottom side of deck. Is anyone out there that still has one in working order, that may be able to get some dimensions from, so I can build it? need height, thickness and radius from center of shafts.
Please let me know if you need more info! The reason for this is so mower does better job cutting grass finer. Right now it comes out long like hay! Thanks, Martin |

If I were doing it I would turn the deck over and give 1/2" clearance from the blade tips, make it even with the front and back deck edges and make the baffle itself .090 to .125 ( 3/32 to 1/8" ) thick.

I use a pc of 1/8 x 1 1/4 flat bar from lowes ( I think a 4 ft lenght will do it ) the far left and right bolts to the rear edge of the deck the center pc touches the rear of the deck if there is no evidence left of the mounting position of the old one you could take a soap stone or marker straight down from each blade as you turn it and draw a line on the underside of the deck then just stay behind the line when you mount it so the blades don't hit. if I remember right the points where the pcs but together are something like 6 1/2" or so out from rear edge of deck where the lines drawn would cross each other .

This is one of those times where a good picture of the underside of a 38" deck with existing baffles would really come in handy.

This should give you an idea what the underside should look like. Deck was a later deck than what you have but should be similar. It was off a 1210 that I used to own.

Does anyone know if replacing baffles, will allow blades to cut grass finer? So it's not coming out full length as cut without baffles?
Thanks for all input and pictures! And by the way, aren't the 6 blades hard on spindles with the extra weight? Martin |

Nope, it worked a little better than OEM but not as good as the Meg-Mo blades I had on another mower.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
