20HP Vanguard drive adapter
First photo is of the engine flywheel. Retaining washer is 2-1/8" diameter. 30mm nut sticks out 1-1/8" from face of flywheel. Four tapped holes are on 2-7/8" diameter circle.
Second photo is of the drive flange on the cub 782. Four holes are on 2-3/16" diameter circle. Third photo is of drive shaft adapter from 2000 series. p/n 719-3096 I don't have a drive shaft adapter to measure it. I'm trying to determine if it will bolt to the Vanguard flywheel. If not, I'm open for suggestions on how to connect the engine to the driveshaft. |

Hello, i think Small Eng Warehouse sells flywheel (clutch hub) adapter. Saw them on another forum. Mucho$ Mwsc used to sell a 4" long one that had 2 sets of holes for Vangaurds/Commands but they don't anymore. I had a machine shop make my last one. Mike

This is what the 16hp Vanguard flywheel looks like. They use a dowel pin to center the adapter. It fits in the bore in the center of the crank. Not sure about the bolt circle on the flywheel, I'll see if I can dig up some info.

That part MWSC made was called a briggs part not vanguard. It had 2 sets of 4 holes. They said they quit making it because briggs kept changing things. Mike

I'd just reuse the stack of nuts.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
