Oil filter lines on an 1810.
Has anyone replaced the factory oil filter hoses that go from the filter to the engine on an M18? I just replaced the nipples on the engine side only to get it running and find the lines leaking at the crimps on both ends. Is there an alternative to the expensive, hard to find OEM hoses?

There is less than 50 PSIG on these lines. It seems overkill that Kohler used "hi-pressure" hose and steel lines for their remotes.
Personally......... I would use 5/16" AC/R copper line. AC/R copper is good for 900 PSI. That is my take. Others may chime in with alternatives.

In the past I have gotten hoses made up at a place that makes custom hydraulic lines. They look OEM and are pretty cheap. I don't think they are both the same length,so take both your old ones with you.

I did both of my lines on the M18. I had them made up at a hydraulic hose shop.

Should I bring them the sections of hardline that bend and go through the tin to the engine?

Yes, the hard line is part of the hose assembly.

I dont know if they will make up the hard pipe part of the lines,i just had the flexable sections made. Let us know how u make out. I may have the hard lines i could sell cheap if u need. Dave

This is something I need to do also (1541) I had not thought of the copper line, that and either some braided mesh to protect it from rubbing or just some rubbing hose would work great...

My guess is that Kohler figured with the heat that the hoses would be in that going with the high pressure line which also means high temp line was probably their plan. Loss of oil while the engine is running is a lot more expensive than the extra $10 for the two hoses. Also at the manufacturer's volume of purchases they were probably not that much more money than low pressure line.

Oil filter lines on an 1810.
I split the metal crimps on mine and removed the old hoses. I replaced them with good (Fuel Injection) rubber hose and clamps a few years ago.
Still working fine and no leaks. Ike |
