Default CC 1541 Brakes

Am wondering if anyone may have run into the same problem with brakes…..Last night I installed the relined pads onto the tractor and even with the adjusting clevis screwed in as far in as possible there is still a lot of slack in the springs resulting in the pads only applying minimum pressure on the rotors with the brake pedal pressed all the way down.

The new brake pads are ¼” thick and the brake springs are heavy buggers and are not stretched.

The only resolution I can think of is to get shorter springs that may result in more pressure from the pads to the rotors. Am also thinking that the lever that applies pressure to the pads when the pedal is depressed against the rotors may be worn. Thanks..

Parts lookup shows the spring is fastened to an adjustable turnbuckle. Can you adjust the rod in to take up the slop on the spring.

Default Brake adjust rod

I happen to have that rod right here on my desk. I screwed the adjustment rod all the way in to provide more travel from the pedal to the brake but still not braking.

As memory serves me I had the same issue with my 1572. Couldn't get any brake pedal. What I found on mine was the pivot arm that makes contact with the back of the brake pad was worn considerably. I had to run a small bead of weld on the arm and grind it back till I got the correct amount of travel. Pain in the arse but the end result turned out good. I was able to turn the adjustment rod back out where it was suppose to be.

Default Brakes

thanks guys...Good info. I stopped at Lowes and picked up a couple heavy springs that were a couple inches shorter than the original. After install I can now adjust the clevis in the middle of the threads resulting is good pressure of the pads to the rotors. This was the lazy mans way of not having to have welding done and it seems like its going to work.
