Default Kohler CV23 Won't Stay Running

I have a Kohler CV23 on a Cub Cadet 50" zero turn with a 2006 date stamp on the motor. I've run this mower at least 3-4 times this year off the gas that was in the tank yesterday. Yesterday I tried to back it out of my garage and it ran long enough for me to get it about 5' out of the garage and it stalled. It simply won't turn over and stay running again so I did the following so far:

- topped the tank off because I knew I didn't have enough to do the yard. this didn't help but I didn't think it would (there was at least an inch of fuel in the tank)
- Squirted a little starter fluid into the intake and it turns over. Did this to validate spark is probably ok.
- Replaced the fuel filter and proved that fuel is getting to the fuel pump
- Tested the fuel pump and it appeared to be "spurting" intermittently so I replaced it just because the problem appears to be a lack of fuel at the carb to me. That had no improvement.
- Removed the fuel cap from the gas tank in case it was not venting. This had no improvement.

Ironically what I've found is if I let it sit for 10-15 minutes because I walked away to do something, when I come back it'll fire but only briefly while I imagine its consuming the fuel left in the float? Choke has to be fully on for it to fire.

What I have noticed is after all of this if I squirt starter fluid into the intake not only can I get it to turn over, if I keep squirting it it'll keep running, but the minute I stop it stalls out. This is leading me to believe that it may be something with the carb not letting fuel into the carb properly but when I bring it in via the air intake it can fire?

I'm running out of ideas other than draining all of the fuel, putting in fresh fuel in just in case, and maybe taking the air cleaner housing off and checking the hose that leads from the fuel pump to the carb, but I don't see any indication that any of the other hoses are damaged and it doesn't appear to be leaking fuel anywhere to suggest there is a hole.

One additional problem I have is I need to find a replacement gasket for the top of the tank where the fuel petcock goes in. I removed this to inspect the petcock and the orange rubber gasket tore on me and it seems near impossible to get it back in. (Edit: I found this and ordered one. I'm hoping I'm missing something simple I can attempt before throwing the towel in and calling the shop to take it.

You have a fuel delivery issue. Most likely within the Carb.
