Default Cub 149 pump shaft - am I doomed?

I had my front pin on my driveshaft shear off this weekend and noticed the pump shaft is pretty hogged out. Does this commonly fail? Is it a nightmare to replace? I found very little info online.

Not if you can locate a new pump!
Might be time for a replacement and it will be much easier because it looks like the pump has to come completely apart to remove the shaft.

Part number for the shaft is SU-3101867 for all the good that will do!

I have a ported pump out of an 1862. $75.00 plus the shipping. You would need to up grade the drive shaft. I had a 149 that I used part of a 2000 series on the front where it bolts to the engine. I have a 2000 series shaft that you can have for $20.00 if you buy the pump. PM me if you have any questions.

Do the shafts ever fail on people? I can't seem to find a lot of threads on replacing them, so I'm hoping this might not be an urgent fix.

Well they usually don't break off, but they do wallow the coupling bore out if they are worn undersize/loose/sloppy.
Problem is the shafts, if you can find them, are expensive, and if you are not mechanically inclined, and very careful keeping the hydro extremely clean inside the outcome is not the best.
Sam has one that I think is more than fair priced and it is a plug and play.
Or you can reuse yours and have Sam's spare on hand.
Spare parts are always a good thing.

302, getting deep into these hydro,s is best to get some odds in your favor. try make a aquaintance with a automatic trans. mech. possibly a enthusaist. hydro ,s are a pressure hydraulic system. It would great a to talk a tractor mech. in teaching some night classes on repair and rebuilds ,until the tractor companies loosen up and start making standard trans. again.

There's a shaft on FleeBay for $27. Looks good. Rebuilding the hydro is not difficult at all. There are plenty of videos, etc that show how to do it. Have lots of space and take pictures and notes during disassembly. I have done this several times with good results.
