Default LTX 1050kw not charging

Hi folks,

I have a 2010 LTX1050KW what won't charge the battery. The charging coil is producing good voltage and there is around 14v coming from the voltage regulator. The 20 amp fuse to the battery is also good but the battery won't charge. Can the ammeter on the dash be faulty? If so, is there a method to test it? I can tell you that a friend of mine used a battery charger to jump it once so it may have gotten damaged then. Everything I have checked has worked properly. But still won't take a hold the charge when running.

Thanks,

Tom

If you have around ~14VDC coming from the Voltage Regulator, then there must be some bad, broken wire, or terminal connection between the V/R and the battery.

So are you saying that you don't think the ammeter could have anything to do with the issue?

Thanks

Your tractor is new enough where I don't have the exact Wiring Diagram. Basing it on tractors that have Amp Gauges, if the Amp Gauge was bad (opened up) you would loose ALL electrical. With that in mind, I am going to say NO, I don't think your Amp Gauge is bad... IF you have some electrical function(s).

You could always check the Amp Gauge with a DVM or VOM meter. Remove the wires from the gauge. Check across the two terminals. You should have zero ohms (or near zero) resistance. Once the test is completed, re-install the wires back on the same terminals they came off from.

This is on the Cub parts site. I don't see an AMP meter and I have no idea what your problem is, sorry.

Okay, so I did a little more investigating tonight. I have close to 32 volts AC coming from the charging coil. This time I disconnected the battery from the tractor and then tested the DC voltage in the regulator. From the DC terminal to ground I am only getting around 8 volts. This is the second regulator I have put on this tractor so that seems really odd but that's what it reads. I do notice that when I charge the battery so I can use the tractor that the voltmeter on the tractor reads 8.9 volts after a few minutes of mowing. So I think it's safe to assume that I am only getting 8.9 volts to the battery when it's charging. It seems that I have a good ground so could the regulator be bad?

I'm starting to think that my dealer sold me a bad replacement part?

Thanks,

Tom

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
