Kohler identify help
Just picked up a Cub Cadet 100, was trying to figure out the year and engine.
It has a Kohler with starter. Not the gen starter. Numbers are stamped on metal plate A 83486 46310C I believe its a K-24,1but the frame was cut down about 1.5 inches And some c-channel welded in to allow it to fit. Did the k241 get fatter after 65? I'll put the pics on google and post in a bit. |

First, welcome to OCC.............
The model 100 was produced from Aug 1963 to Aug 1965. The Kohler K241-46310C was a Cub Cadet specified engine. The Serial Number you cited, dates it to 1965. According to the Parts Manual, the Kohler K241-46310C engine rolled out of the Factory with a D-231262 Starter/Generator. Quote:

Thanks for the welcome.
Got a job fixing a side by side wound up with a bunch of Yard art. The 100 came with a box blade and what I think is an IH snow plow blade. |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
