what tractor to keep?
Hi everyone, I have been looking for a bigger tractor for mowing and snow removal to replace my john deere 314. I found a gentleman selling two 317s and went to look at them and he also had a cub cadet 2086 not running with a 54 inch deck and bracket and a large 2 stage snowblower, it also has rear 3 point. It has a kawasaki 20hp engine. I offered him 500 bucks and he said yes. I got it running after cleaning the fuel solenoid, it runs and mows really great. Then when i was researching the value of it I found a 2182 for sale close to me with a 54 in deck and a snowblade and i jumped on it. This one has a kubota gas engine. I will try and figure out how to attach pictures but I need some help deciding which tractor I would be better off keeping!? Also any tips and tricks to look out for. I read a little about loose bolts some where and also read about a plastic cam gear on the kawasaki. the 2086 has 1700 hours and the 2182 has 800 hours. Thanks in advance

The correct answer is both, but with the low hours I'd probably keep the 2182.
Although the later fender super cubs do look sharp...

The WG600 engine is good, but they are thirsty. I would prefer the 2182.

I would keep both but if I had to choose and only keep one, I would keep the 2182.

Kubota makes a very good motor, love the gassers simply so I do not have more plastic jugs around that would need to be yellow

Well thanks everyone, I am just getting some time to get used to these new machines and I noticed the 2182 has very slow reverse, also maybe a little noisy/whiny. Should I just try and swap the valves from tractor to tractor to see if one of the valves is bad, or even swap the same tractors valves to see if the symptoms show up in forward now? Thanks.

Verify proper shifter adjustment, and proper hydro filter and fluid condition and level.

i got it figured out someone had the shift linkage mounted to the top hole of the hydo governer plate and it was barely letting it tilt down for reverse, switched to bottom hole and it is like brand new!

Still not a bad idea to change the fluid & filter. Small investment into your new machine.

Good advice. Some of these machines haven't had the hydro touched since new I bet.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
