Check the rear axle mounting points for broken/loose bolts and the broken tabs on the front mounting points.

Will do, is that a typical trouble spot for them. Ive only owned NF's and a few WF's so this is new territory for me. I have had a few of the later models and have a 3240 and 2155 now.

First and foremost replace the fuel lines with new ones and flush out the tank. Check the screen on the fuel shut off petcock, they clog up.

Then change all fluids and filters.

Gear reduction starter, drive shaft and rear end braces were my biggest upgrades.

I did an alternator as well. New battery cables.

Yes, that is a trouble spot. Especially if it spent it's life without a 3 point or bagger plate. Without the ends of the frame rails tied together, the frame flexes more, aluminum embosses on the rear end can't take it. They break off.

Its a heavy tractor, likes to have all four wheels on the ground, all the time. The
rougher the terrain, the more flex.

good info, thanks y'all. I only have to go about 92 miles to pick it up and it's supposed to be in good running condition so I'm a little on the excited side, never owned a diesel before.

I am curious to know too. Tim is about an hour from me. A 1772 for sale close to me and I did not know it. I am slipping. Joking aside, I hope it turns out good for you.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
