Gas tanks & paint?
My tank on the # 122 is almost devoid of any paint.
Now my # 109's tank is Cub White & # 122 is yeller? I've read that by dripping gas on a newly painted tank will & can start the paint to peel? DUNNNNO? Here is my plan. Rustoleum appliance paint with epoxy should help? Almost a perfect match color - Almond. Since its gonna be under the hood & near perfect match I was wondering..... anyone use this epoxy almond paint for their tanks? Nik |

If that's a rattle-can paint, forget it. You need something with hardener in it. The next time I find myself having to paint a gas tank, I'm going to paint it (with good paint with hardener) and wait about 6 months to put gas in it. It needs awhile to cure well enough so that the gas doesn't break it down. Even paint with hardener will get messed up if you don't wait long enough...BTDT.
For a worker that you aren't completely repainting, I wouldn't even bother repainting the tank. No one is going to see it... BTW, you need to get all the engine tinwork for that 122. It's not going to cool as well if it's missing all that stuff. |

Yes, a can. I was hoping the epoxy finish would help?
Well ya know how sometimes one can get carried away with these darn yeller things? It seemed complete? Thats the way I got it. But looking further into the parts thing, It seems to be missing a plate or 2? Nik, |

Why not just get the tank powdercoated? More durable than any paint. I had the wheels for my red and white project done and they are very close to original.I plan to have my JD H manifold done in hi heat powdercaot, that's how good it really is..

I was told the tank on my 100 couldn't be powder coated due to the type of metal

powder coat would be fine on the tank and hold up very well since its fuel proof, ive done a few tank for larger farm tractors.

I don't know J Mech, I'm only saying what I was told by the powder coater. I can't remember is his reasoning. He did every part on his own I remember him saying except the rear end and the tank

I agree..... and I've never powder coated anything in my life, but I know the tank is made of steel, and steel can be powder coated. |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
