Default Opions on what to get next

Hi guys i like my 782 so much i decided to sell off old my bolens stuff. It's hopefully all going to a new home tomorrow so i am looking for another cub. I really want diesel but considering gas i have about 2k maybe a little more.

I've seen the 1512 listed in the craigslist section and that got my interest to scratch my diesel itch but then i kinda want a super.

Then i was looking through craigslist and saw this 1572 but i'm not sure in another member might be able to look at it for me as it's about 8 hours away from me.

I don't want to waste and blow 2k without seeking advise from others.

My first thought with the info he put in his ad, is that he has no idea what he has. The year is wrong, the attachment book is no longer valid. So I think it will have all the issues associated with a almost 30 year old tractor. 500-1000 would be all I would pay. More if he had receipts for any work done.

I agree unless he routinely took it to the dealer, and if they even knew what they were doing and what to keep an eye on, I would say it's going to be a crap shoot on whether it's a mess. The diesels can be a major money pit. I know from experience but they can be awesome once you get it all sorted out.

Thanks guy for the imput on that i really don't need a super so i am kind leaning on the 1512. He's over priced for not knowing any history on it or maintenance on the machine. He sent me a bunch of pictures and a video of it running and he was honest it's slow to start.

If that '72 were closer to me, it would be on my trailer and on the way home.

The diesels are great when they have been maintained and taken care of.. problem is most that I find have been run hard and worked to death..

You will enjoy a diesel that is in good shape... you will hate one that is well worn..

I have a 1782 that I really enjoy. But I also have a 2182 gasser that is super smooth and super powerful..

I like them both!!

That applies to everything though maintenance is always key. If i can maintain a few VW TDI's and a fleet of older ford tractors how bad could a cub be really.

Only problem I see is the cost working on a diesel is quite a bit more than a comparable twin air cooled engine..

But if you get a diesel that is in good mechanical shape, I would go for it..

Slow cranking could be just bad glow plugs or a sluggish starter... but it also could be a worn out engine, or bad injector pump.. (costly)

I wasn't trying to talk you out of it... I actually encourage it!!

I think you will like it!

Thanks he sent me a video and in the video the hour gauge was working shows just under 1,300 hours so i'm hoping just a starter gear reduction mod needed. At the end of the day it comes down to what i feel conferable spending and what it really looks like if the guy comes for my stuff tomorrow can't drag anything else home before i have room.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
