New to me Cub 147
Hi,
LBMAN from WA State here I brought back a 1970 mdl 147 from MN. last summer. Motor was toast as well as a couple of other things. I had a heck of a time getting motor apart. The pulleys were all kind of stuck on. I was finallly able to find a machine shop to do the cylinder boring had to go out to .40 over to clean it up. The motor is back together. I only found a Federal Yellow at an IH dealer in Lynden WA. I painted the motor anyways. I will wait to paint the hole tractor when I can find the appropriate color. It will be nice just to get it running. It came with a blade and I have a bunch of roots and brush to push. I'm too old to do it by hand these days. Thanks to this group for all the info I found. Sounds like you have done a lot of work to your 147 already. That is the most powerful NF that IH made and it will be a very solid tractor for you. At 0.40 over, it will be even more powerful!!! Looking forward to seeing your pictures of it. Welcome once again, glad to have you as a member!

New to Me cub 147
Thanks for the warm welcomes
I am not new to grime and worn out stuff. my youngest took a video and put it on face book. the cub smoked a bit and complained about turning over 360 the 1st few times but starts right up now, this has been a long haul for me. took me two full days to put the motor back together, so no bragging on my part. should have put all the stuff in the hot take. 20/20 hindend here. I have been trying to cover up the rust and bare steel. maybe in MN where its dry . but out here in the Ever rain side of the WA. Ya Need Paint. Not the cheep stuff either. In fact ,it seems, put the undercoating ON TOP. But I am excited to get this bad boy runnin. now to fix the whiplash adjustments (worn out stuff) on the drive. This thing has torque I'll give it that. I'll pull some trees down this weekend. to really check it out oh and need to get the sponge covered so I can sit down. I WILL GET SOME PICKS thanks again to all LB |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
