Default Seals

This tractor has been worked pretty hard.

I know there is a leak around the relief valves, as well as the hydro seal and also a trunion seal (the easy one). I started pulling it apart and while into it just 'do them all'. Was also going to drill the axle tube drain holes while apart.

At the same time this trunion is pretty buggered up. I do have a complete second rear end ... could just swap the entire rear end now that I think about it. I havent run the second rear that much but know it has a relief valve leaking. But dont know of any seal leaks. Could do all that work and then need to pull it anyway.

Hmm.. decisions decisions.

its always amazing to me someone would spend more time half azzing it then doing it the correct way. i believe in do it once,do it right.

Not so much that. More a question of whether its just easier to swap the entire rear end. And sometimes its unclear of what 'half azzing' means - the counter to this is if it aint broke dont break it. (sometimes I take something apart that really didnt need it, and this can cause a problem where one didnt exist prior).

But with this one the rear end is all the way apart. Even if I swapped to the other rear end, it would just bug me that this one was in pieces so I would end up rebuilding it all anyway.

Time to put in an order for seals/gaskets.

I have the axle seals and gaskets and the rear cover gasket - any need to change the needle bearings while there? (I was thinking not).

Should I just do both trunions while into this far? I think may as well, even if a little more time. Which means breaking the hydro so need that seal. (have the hydro to rear end seal).

And need the internal brake seal.

Will also add a top plate gasket to the list.

What did I miss? (anyone already put together a cheat sheet for a rear end build? If not, maybe its time I pulled it together with part numbers and cross references)

I wouldn't. I don't open a hydro unless absolutely necessary. The seal on the drive side never leaks anyway. You'll put 3 in on the right side and still may never change the left.

What numbers do you need? I have all the seals for the hydro handy (input, output, trunion) in NAPA numbers.

Im not that keen on breaking the hydro if I dont need to. Also, this one has internal brakes and I only see an oring listed (not a 'seal' per se).

Top cover gasket appears to be no longer available so making my own or silicone it is.

Any of these NAPA numbers you can reference would be great:

i didnt mean you yeeter,i meant the po and the weld repair to the trunion.if this was a known good unit i would repair it. if your unsure on the other one it would suck to install it only to find out that your back to square one. i do not mean to offend anyone,sorry if i did.

I think the original repair was just worn out again. Although it looks kinda funky, I think it worked.... it just wore out.
