Cadet garage find
Hey guys, I was given this from a friend who said it was junk. However I've been mowing with it the last couple of years and it is great. Now it's time to do some upgrades and repairs. But I have no idea where to get parts or what the exact model is. The fiberglass sticker is long gone.
It's a 4 speed forward with 1 reverse and electric start. The info from the engine tag is: 170707 5132-01 74121012 Any ideas what the model/year is or where to get parts? I need a solenoid and may need to rebuild the starter. I also need new tires, where have you guys had luck with finding replacement tires? Thanks for the help! |

A serial number from the Cub would be helpful. A picture even better!
This might help you locate a serial number possibly: http://cubfaq.com/serialnumbers.html

You cant' tell too much about the mower from just the engine data but the 170707 but it tells me that the engine is probably a B&S 7 hp and that, if it's IH, you likely have a Cadet Model 76 Tractor style lawn mower made from 1972-1976. If so, the Serial number tag is at the rear under the back edge of the seat. Carefull cleaning it!! You can remove all the painted areas easily!! The Ser # will be stamped in.
A photo along with the complete kind/code/serial number would do wonders in helping us determine what you have. Myron B

Ah, this should help
I couldn't get a good picture, but it says:
03400 12 U045983 And the side label says International Cadet 75. A few questions. - Where do you all buy tires? - My starter is bad, I'm looking into rebuilding it, but can you get new ones? - How about air filters? |

Hi..The Model 75 is (obviously) a Cadet Rear Engine Rider with a B&S 7 hp vertical shaft engine. The Model 75 was made from 1972-1975. Your one-up serial number 045983 was manufactured in late 1975. These are excellent mowers for small flat lawns.
As for parts & tires.. There's always those nice pretty boxes at the top of the page..The Forum Sponsors!! Try'em..they can & will help.

Do they use the same starter as the 80s Briggs 8-10-11hp vertical shaft engines with the nylon flywheel gear at the end? I have one sitting in my garage I paid $40 for on ebay and never used. I'll ship it for $35. It works.
looks a lot like... It uses a roll pin to keep the nylon starter gear in place, rather than the doodad that's shown.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
