Default Parking brake will not lock

Cub Cadet XT1 Enduro LT 42
ONLY HAD THIS MOWER 45 DAYS. HAVE USED IT ABOUT 5 TIMES. LOVE IT! BUT!! YESTERDAY WHEN I WAS ALMOST FINISHED CUTTING I TRIED TO LOCK THE PARKING BRAKE WITH THE LITTLE LEVER UNDER THE STEERING WHEEL AS USUAL IT WOULD NOT LOCK. THE BRAKE WORKS TO STOP THE MOWER, BUT THE LEVER IS JUST NOT ENGAGING TO LOCK THE BRAKE. I READ SOMEWHERE THAT THIS BRAKE LOCKING SYSTEM IS TIED IN TO THE FORWARD AND REVERSE PEDALS SOMEHOW. YESTERDAY WAS THE FIRST TIME I USED THE REVERSE PEDAL VERY MUCH.
CAN ANYONE SHED ANY LIGHT ON THIS?

Spoke with the only 2 repair shops authorized to do warranty repairs in my area today. Said it would be 2 weeks before they could get to it + an $80 transport fee.
I was hoping it would be something simple i could just fix.

Does your cruise control work?
You should look at Part #13. It connects under your dash and down at your foot brake control.
Likely lost retainer at one end or other and slipped out of hole.

Thank you so much!
I will definately look at that tomorrow. Can you tell me what parts (dash cover, etc.) i will need to remove to access that part?

If it were me I would first look down below, which means you would probably be better off removing the mower deck for a clear view.
You might as well accept the fact that removing the mower deck is part of "owning what you got".
You'll have to do it sooner or later, next time gets easier, it's called experience.

Praise the lord! Praise the lord! And praise mr. Ironman!
Since you inquired about the cruise control i went out there and tried the cruise control. It did work. After using the cruise control i tried the parking brake again and now it locks! Hoping it will continue to work. Not wanting to look a gift horse in the mouth, but does the fact that this appears to have ,corrected the problem shed any light on what was happening?
Again thank mr. Ironman so much an, of course, thank the good lord..

The cruise/brake lock mechanism is just some levers, latches, and rods, all designed with sloppy tolerance.
More than likely a couple of things where not lined up just right and your movement got things back in kilter.
Don't lose any sleep over it.

No praise please, a little prayer will suffice. I need all the help I can get.

I will definately continue to say a prayer of thanks and blessing for you.
As i said in my original post this is a practically new mower-replacing one i have had to tinker with for the past two years to keep it operational-and i was more upset than i should have been over this minor glitch.
This cub cadet is by far the nicest and easiest to operate mower i have ever had.
I have about a 5 acre yard to cut 1-2 times a week depending on how much rain we get and i just hated the thought of having it in the shop for 1-2 weeks even though it is still under warranty.
I am a 67 year old woman - pretty handy with tools with the help of youtube videos, but did not want to start taking my new baby apart!
Anyway, thanks again for your help. This forum is great!

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
