Default Picture of the Week for January 10, 2011

1969 Cub Cadet 127
Options when I picked it up were a 48" deck, spring assist and a right angle gearbox.

STORY:
I was looking for a older tractor to tinker with for awhile. I had it narrowed down to a JD and Cub Cadet because of the support out there and the ability to get parts. I found an ad on local craigslist for this 127. there were no pictures and a very basic ad. Basically just said older cub cadet not running, best offer over 300. Since it was close to my house, I took a ride. I pulled up and a very well dressed man opened the door and greeted me and took me to the yard. As we open the shed up, It was buried with tons of stuff piled on and around it. We cleared the area and man was she dirty........... The wiring harness was all broken in the dash and there was no way this thing ran in a long time.

The man gave me the story..... This was his dads tractor that he bought new in 1970. He went to order a new one and this was on the showroom floor. He was a Doctor and was looking for the best to mow his 3 acre lawn. Someone had ordered this machine with the tiller and spring assist, wide 23x10.5x12 turf tires, and a 48" deck.......It was always kept inside and his father passed around 5 years ago. He brought the tractor to his house and said once and awhile he drove it around just for some memories. Finally it stopped running like 4.5 years ago and has been sitting ever since. You can tell that he was emotional about selling the tractor but my 4 year old some was with me and was like dad that is a really cool cub cadet !!! Lets drive it !!!!! The man straight out said to me, I have had people come and look at it but you can tell they wanted to just use it for parts, I really want someone to fix it and use it. He asked me straight up, what do you want it for, and my little guy said my dad will fix it, he has alot of tools. I told him, that I would not part it out it will be fixed !!! We made a deal at $300 for it. When i get to pick it up, there is also a beautiful condition #2 cart there too !!!! As I was leaving he said, hey don't for get this.........say what.........umm ok, thanks !!!! We actually still keep in touch and I send him progress pictures......he told me he hopes that my son has as much fun on it as he did as a kid.........Keeping the Legacy alive !!!

What I have done:
New Wire Harness
rebuilt carb, condenser, plug,coil,points
all new tires and painted rims
touched up some sheet metal
Head Gasket
Heim joints for the steering
Added the plow.

Jason,
Nothing like a good story from a PO.
Keep up the good work and your son one day will be driving it.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
