LT1042 no start
I have a 1042 that that will not start. When I hook up a coil, all I have is old ones form other motors. I don't know if they work with Briggs or not, but they should since the mowers they come off of are Briggs engines here's what I have:
* Battery 12v * wire from battery to key switch 12v * from Key switch to solenoid 12v * out to starter 0v Any help is GREATLY appreciated cause I really want this old mower running again. It's the only one that I have ever had that's worth a damn.

The LT1042 came with a Kohler courage engine.
If it's been replaced with a Briggs & Stratton, there is no telling what else has been changed. As for your starter solenoid, if 4 posts it can be tested by putting ground to one small terminal and 12v to the other small terminal, then it should engage and the 2 big terminals should be shorted together. If you are using a 3 terminal solenoid, you ground the solenoid body and 12v goes to the small post. Either solenoid, gets a big +12 to a big terminal and a big wire from the other big terminal to the starter. Unless you have a Vanguard engine with the solenoid mounted on the starter? Then none of the last paragraph applies.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
