new origional owner again
Just got my grandmothers 1963 Cub back from dads old barn. She bought it new but would turn on her grave to see it now. Tires rotten, rusty mower deck , but a little tuning got the motor purring likeua kitten. The local dealer printed me 65 pages of parts book but everything I need is discontuined. My clutch is shot and i see the parts breakdown but have no idea what to buy or where to buy to repair. Tonight I am removeing everything from under tractor so I can work on it. Any ideas ?

Thanks guys, I looked under the tractor today and it looks like all the parts are there only the spring just floats back and forth from the throw out bearing to the flex disc. If I see things correctly, I need to remove the whole drive line and drill out the hole that holds the pin that holdsthe washer to keep the spring tight against the throw out bearing. I will still order a service book before I start the project. I rebuilt a corvete and an old JD crawler so this can't much harder and parts can't be as hard as restoring a 1963 Honda Scrambler. There are some tractors near me for $700 +/- that are in much better shape than mine, that I could buy for parts, but they all run and I hate to part out a runner.

Welcome to OCC! Congrats on your Original. I see you are from NC. Where are you located? I'm near the Fayetteville area.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
