AGS 2160 clutch engagement
First time poster, I’ve been lurking and searching the forums for info on a free 2160.
It came with a leaking axle seal that I have fixed, and refilled with new 20-50 synthetic hydrostatic oil. It doesn’t have a filter, although the housing looks like it had a place for one. When I place the machine in any gear it is slow to start moving and then will accelerate to a good speed, while holding the foot lever all the way engaged. Any ideas as to the fix? From what I’ve read it sounds like the clutch, is there a write up on how to service or replace it? Thank you for any help. Mike |

I recall seeing a thread about shimming the AGS on MTF My Tractor Forum a few years ago. Just my 2 cents, I would not waste my time on an AGS machine. Pull the engine and sell it for a repower and haul the remains to the scrap yard. Not trying to be a dick just don't want to see you waste a lot of time and $$$$

Thank you for the information, the previous owner indeed used it as a hydrostatic. I have nothing into it and with all the attachments that I have with it thought I would try and fix it and make a buck.
I saw the same thread on adding a shim to it. If a clutch wasn’t too tough a job I’d replace it. |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
