Default Anybody use Cub Cadet walk behind snowblowers?

Just curious if anyone here has used or owns a cub cadet walk behind snowblower and what's your opinion of them? I have a 420 walk behind and I love it.

I have one and use it as the primary snow removal machine for my London Ontario home which is right between Lake Huron and Lake Erie (think Lake Effect snow). It works great.

Tecumseh Snow King engine (its OK). 8hp, I've bogged her down a bit in the heavy when snows comes over the front inlet but she throws snow awesome and we get lots of it here. Usually need the drift cutters due the way our drive is situated, lots of very high drifts that with some time and finesse this machine does a great job.
2 Stage, not the newer 3 Stage.

I'd buy it again if I had to, so I give a thumbs up.

I prefer a walk behind for where I live due to engine is made and jetted for very cold temps, (I keep 0W oil it) the machine is light and agile and maneuverable takes up little space. Starts with one pull of the cord but has electric start 110VAC. Best solution for high snow areas in my opinion.

Garden Tractors with front plows are useless up here. Garden Tractors with big blowers are great, but take up too much space for me and their engines and trannies (trannies just don't dress for winter ) are not really made for -10 to -30 C in my opinion...so why beat them up? It CC 8hp Blower was $1200 new.

That's my 2 cents Canadian...which is actually 5 cents since we abolished the penny 2 years ago.

LOL!! Here is our weather situation for tomorrow! Better get gas methinks.
20cm for the metric impaired is about 8 inches

Snow Squall watch

Issued at 10:49 a.m. EST Tuesday 6 January 2015

Summary

Westerly winds continue to generate snow squalls for areas east of Lake Huron and Georgian Bay. A cold front will pass through southern Ontario tonight bringing even colder conditions and northwest winds. These northwest winds will cause the snow squalls to shift to areas southeast of Lake Huron and Georgian Bay starting tonight and continuing through the day on Wednesday. For areas such as London, Strathroy and St. Thomas, the greatest threat for snow squalls will begin Wednesday morning and persist throughout the day. Snowfall accumulations of 10 to 20 cm per 12 hours are likely under the heaviest snow squalls, especially if the squalls lock in place. In addition, gusty northwest winds will result in very poor visibility due to blowing snow.

I was thinking the same thing ? Although I do use a small walk behind for smaller walks where its a waste of time for the tractor.

Back in the day when I lived in CT I had a Yamaha 828

for the driveway from H--L. If we only got a couple inch's I used my 1210 with the blade but 6" + it was blower time.

I have used an IH 268 for several years and even posted photos of it last year when cutting through snow drifts that were several inches taller than the auger housing and engine level of the thrower. I like it and believe it to be about a '74.....a real solid workhorse!

My dad has a newer style one. It's on tracks. No idea the model or anything about it. I've looked at it. Looks cool. He says it works good and really likes it. I've never ran it, or even seen it in use.

I have a 524swe I bought new in fall of '09, it's been great. 24", 2 stage, 208cc engine. Has 110v elec start or typically starts in 1-2 pulls. Has a nice headlight, power steering, remote chute controls. Last winter I got the heated hand grip kit and put it on (it was brutally cold last winter if you recall). Haven't run it this year as I got my qa42a on the 782 and I used that. I've been considering selling it but not sure how reliable my qa is going to be. My QA could use some love but I didn't want to put money into it until I could see how it works.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
