Default GT2550 pickup

Picked up a GT2550 today. Nice machine except for the hood. This is one of those that had heat problems and the hood is warped. I'll probably replace the hood, do a few things to it and send it down the road. I know I could sell the CH22 in it for more than I paid for the complete tractor so I'm a happy camper.

Nice score!

But hey..... that's not a cyclops.

Perhaps you've traded your title as the "Cyclops King" to Lew??

Not planning on getting all that involved in it. Mowed with it yesterday, my 1641 is ten times the tractor that this thing is.

Yep Lew is the new Cyclops Master. Next time someone bad mouths the plastic hoods on a Cyclops tell them to take a looks at a GT2500, what a total POS. This one is all twisted from the heat of the muffler. If I was going to keep it I'd graft a hood from an 82 series onto it.

My Gt2550 has a heat shield on the muffler , but as a precaution every time I stop mowing I pop the bonnet
Also took cover off the central vents in the bonnet
My only problem has been the cheap bearings in the deck idler pulleys
There is a post in Implements and Attachments listing part nos for updated bits

Think I may have found a hood to replace it local. This is a pic of the muffler shield as it came from the factory.

Picked up a decent hood from a LT1554 (same part) now I just need to swap them.

Hood is on. I'm going to modify the exhaust so that it exits straight down rather than cut a hole through the grill. The factory design did a nice job of melting the hood around the exhaust pipe. Plus the pipe was hitting the hood and grill every time you went to open or close it. Found a j-bend 1-3/8" OD pipe on Jegs that looks like it will fit nice with a little cutting and welding. I may add some type of insulation to the top of the muffler box. Have to see if it's needed after I get the pipe on it. Also ordered the proper decals for the hood. Time to service it and get it cleaned up and ready to sell.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
