Glad to be here!
I was searching the net to find some information about a repair to my 123, this site came up and I was delighted to find so much interest in the CubCadet.
My 123 was built in 1967, I purchased it from a coworker in 1977. It's been a workhorse ever since. It came with a 48" mower deck, a 42" blower and a plow. I added an IH trailer in the 80's. I rebuilt the original engine in '84 and replaced it about 5 years later with a K301 short block. I've replaced worn parts over the years and my Cub has never let me down. A great machine! (But you already know that.) At the moment, I'm chasing a leak between the hydro and the transmission. It's a little intimidating to find I need to 'split' the tractor but she needs some TLC. Hope you guys can help me avoid mistakes...... Glad to be here! Looking forward to the fellowship and experience each of you bring to our common interest. |

Thanks.
I appreciate the welcome from all of you.
I split the 123 yesterday and started cleaning her up. I ordered some gaskets and a new cooling fan. My plan is to remove the hydro next. Any tips on replacing the gasket and proper torque technique? I want to get this right so I won't have to undo a lot of work. I'll get some pictures on the site as I progress. Thanks, again. (PS: Am I in the right place to ask questions, or should I post in another location?) |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
