Default 1650 Muffler Bracket

Hello,

I'm in the process of repairing a heavily used & abused 1650. I bought new engine mounts, made the engine rail modification, bought a used exhaust elbow, and an aluminum air duct & sheet metal shroud off ebay only to discover the air duct had several fractures. I realize this system is very flimsy so now I'm thinking of fabricating separate metal supports to support the muffler and not relying on the aluminum air duct to support all this weight.

I'm not going for a 100 point restoration, just a good reliable mower. I'm interested in what other owner's of the 1650 have used to solve this muffler support problem.

Thank You! - Jim

What it did was go to lowes and buy some steel and make my own bracket from the bottom of the motor where the single bolt runs through the engine to the top of the muffler bracket it had two bends i did it on the fly and worked for me. Sorry I don't have any pictures the mower was sold but it worked the steel was about 1.5 x .250 and I bent it up in a vice.

Thanks for the feed back. The photos of Dave's 1650 project and the link posted by Methos helped. The bracket on my muffler has been cobbled up by the previous owner. I'll build some support brackets and try to post photos later.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
