Gas leaking on air filter
I’ve been restoring my 79 cab cadet and have been using it to mow but find that I am having gas leaking onto my filter after it remains unused a few days. Does anyone know if it’s OK to use Berryman to clean the carburetor? I cannot remember if the carburetor was rebuilt when I had the engine rebuilt.

Is the gas leaking ON to the air cleaner or into the air cleaner.
The former is likely the common leaks from the sediment bowl or from the tank threads itself , the latter is usually a stuck float. Both are pretty straightforward fixes. I've found that Pematex on the threads of the tank is a really good sealant.

When I got my 126, it would drip gas from the air filter after the engine was stopped. The previous owner had soaked and rebuilt the carb and couldn’t figure out the leaking issue. It turned out that the bowl vent hole was plugged with crap that likely settled there when the carb was soaked. I cleaned out the vent and the leak went away.

OK, thanks for the info on my filter being soaked with gasoline. I talked to a parts store owner and he suggested placing another gasoline shut off valve on the hose between the tank and the carburetor. I did that and will try that before I do anything further on it. It starts just fine so I think maybe this might be an easy fix.

If it's leaking from the air cleaner, also check for a stuck float. This is very common and pretty easy to fix if you remove the bowl. The needle valve can get stuck as well but it comes free easily with some choice words and a pick.
