New Guy, Been At It For A While
I grew up on a small farm. My dad did custom baling for several farmers. Since I was big as a kid, I was part of the package. I started put up hay for other farmers when I was 9.
I used my "hay" money to buy my first tractor when I was 12. I started with a JD B and a year later bought an IH M and a 10' disc. My dad died in 1975 when I was 14. In 1976, I planted our crops by myself working after school. I've been a workaholic ever since. The garden is the only "hobby" I have, and that is a lot of work at times. I have worked on 4 different farms driving all sizes of tractors and equipment. One farmer had an older 988 Cat loader. That thing was huge in it's day. I've been a professional welder for a while, had a cabinet parts business for a while, and owned my own truck for 14 years. I've driven almost 4 million miles since I got my chauffeurs license in 1978. No cdl's back then. I'd like to start selling produce and make that my full time job. For now though, I deliver pole buildings for a large supplier. If any of you west of the Mississippi River have bought a pole barn on the internet, I or my son may have brought it to you. I don't care for much of the newer government choked vehicles or equipment. The newest vehicle I have is a '94. I still drive a 1978 Chevy pickup that I bought new in '78. I used to do about all of the mechanical work on my cars, pickups, and trucks, but I guess I'm getting a little lazy lately because I let my neighbor fix some things for me now. I'll keep reading and looking at pics here and get to know what tractors and equipment some of you have.
